How it got here
The legislation originated from the need to replace outdated parking meter hardware managed by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA).
SFMTA entered into three-year maintenance agreements with existing vendors to maintain current parking meters and access meter management software, as the previous contracts expired on April 30, 2021.

The SFMTA Board adopted Resolution No. 210615-083, authorizing the Director of Transportation to execute a five-year agreement with MacKay Meters, Inc. for the procurement of new parking meters, subject to Board of Supervisors' approval.
The committee referred the resolution for the parking meter procurement contract without recommendation to the full Board of Supervisors.
The Budget and Finance Committee amended the resolution and recommended it for adoption by the Board of Supervisors.
