Resolution retroactively approving the Fiscal Year (FY) 2021-2022 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program; authorizing the Mayor, on behalf of the City and County of San Francisco, to apply for, accept, and expend the City’s FY2021-2022 CDBG Program entitlement from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the amount of $18,887,307 and to expend estimated program income in the amount of $5,850,000 for a combined total of approximately $24,737,307 for a period beginning July 1, 2021, through the date when all funds are expended.
How it got here
The legislation originated from the need to secure federal funding for community development initiatives in San Francisco through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
HUD notified the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) about the CDBG funding allocation for FY2021-2022.
The MOHCD submitted a resolution to the Board of Supervisors to accept and expend the CDBG funds, including a proposed expenditure schedule.
The MOHCD requested retroactive approval for the acceptance and expenditure of CDBG funds due to the timing of the budget hearings.
The Budget and Finance Committee recommended the resolution for approval to the Board of Supervisors.
The Board of Supervisors adopted the resolution to approve the CDBG funding and authorized the Mayor to apply for and expend the funds.
The Mayor approved the resolution, allowing the City to proceed with the CDBG funding.
