How it got here
The legislation originated from the need to procure additional light rail vehicles for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) as part of a long-term fleet expansion plan.
The SFMTA Board approved Contract No. 2013-19 with Siemens Industry, Inc. to provide up to 260 light rail vehicles, including options for expansion, for an amount not to exceed $1.19 billion.
The Board approved Modification No. 1 to exercise Option 1 for 40 additional LRVs to be delivered after the Phase 1 delivery of 24 vehicles.
Modification No. 2 was approved to update the list of approved major suppliers and clarify contract language.
Modification No. 3 was approved to add design changes for enhancements to passengers and reduce life-cycle costs.
Modification No. 4 was approved to procure four additional LRVs to serve the Chase Center, funded by the Golden State Warriors.
Modification No. 10 was approved to exercise an option to procure 30 additional LRVs for $130,409,780, with cancellation provisions through June 2025.
