How it got here
The legislation originated from the need to support community projects in District 7 through a Participatory Budgeting initiative.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, District 7 was unable to engage in the traditional participatory budgeting process for FY 2021-22. A committee of community stakeholders reviewed 26 proposals and selected the 11 highest scoring projects for funding.
The Budget and Finance Committee recommended the ordinance for approval, which included de-appropriating $229,630 from District 7 General City Responsibility and appropriating funds to various departments for community projects.
The Board of Supervisors passed the ordinance on first reading, which allocated funds to the Arts Commission, Department of Public Works, Recreation and Park Department, General Services Agency, and Department of Children, Youth and Their Families.
The Board of Supervisors finally passed the ordinance, allowing for the appropriation of funds to support the District 7 Community Grants Initiative under Participatory Budgeting projects for FY 2021-2022.
