How it got here
The legislation to designate the 1700 block of Buchanan Street as 'Ruth Asawa Plaza' originated from a proposal by Supervisor Dean Preston to honor the legacy of artist Ruth Asawa.
Supervisor Dean Preston introduced the resolution to add the commemorative street name 'Ruth Asawa Plaza' to the 1700 block of Buchanan Street on November 2, 2021.
The Land Use and Transportation Committee reviewed the resolution on December 13, 2021, and voted to continue it to the call of the chair.
Supervisor Myrna Melgar requested that the resolution be considered by the full Board as an urgent matter on December 14, 2021.
The Clerk of the Board noted that the file remained active as of July 6, 2022.
The resolution was filed pursuant to Rule 3.41 on May 12, 2023.
