How it got here
The legislation originated from concerns about funding cuts to the Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs' Community Ambassadors Program.
The Community Ambassadors Program (CAP) was initiated in response to cultural and linguistic tensions and increased violence in the Bayview and Visitacion Valley neighborhoods.
The Mayor's budget proposed to fund the ambassador program for FY2024-2025 but suggested reducing funding to zero in the second year, threatening the program's continuation.
The Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 357-24, commending OCEIA's Community Ambassadors Program for its excellence and urging continued support.
The resolution became effective without the Mayor's signature, as it was not signed within the required time frame.
