How it got here
The legislation originated from a need to address the increasing number of unsheltered households in San Francisco, particularly families, and aimed to extend rapid rehousing assistance to prevent homelessness.
The City conducted an annual Point-In-Time Count revealing a 98% increase in unsheltered households with minor children from 2022 to 2024.
The Board of Supervisors introduced an ordinance to amend the Administrative Code to provide up to five years of rapid rehousing assistance for eligible households.
The ordinance was referred to the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing for review and comment.
The Rules Committee continued the discussion on the ordinance to allow for further consideration.
The Rules Committee amended the ordinance to ensure assessments for subsidy extensions are conducted and recommended it for passage.
The Board of Supervisors passed the ordinance on first reading, moving it closer to final approval.
