Ordinance amending the Planning Code to designate the Ladies’ Protection and Relief Society, located at 3400 Laguna Street, Assessor’s Parcel Block No. 0471, Lot No. 003, as a Landmark consistent with the standards set forth in Article 10 of the Planning Code; affirming the Planning Department’s determination under the California Environmental Quality Act; and making public necessity, convenience, and welfare findings under Planning Code, Section 302, and findings of consistency with the General Plan, and the eight priority policies of Planning Code, Section 101.1.

Community members submitted a nomination for Article 10 Landmark Designation for the Ladies’ Protection and Relief Society to the Planning Department.

The Historic Preservation Commission initiated the landmark designation of the Ladies’ Protection and Relief Society after a public hearing, adopting Resolution No. 1416.

The Commission reviewed the architectural and historical significance of the property and recommended its designation as a landmark through Resolution No. 1425.

The Commission transmitted the recommendation for landmark designation to the Board of Supervisors, confirming the exemption from CEQA.

The Land Use and Transportation Committee held a public hearing to consider the ordinance for landmark designation.

The Board of Supervisors passed the ordinance on first reading, moving forward with the landmark designation process.

The Board of Supervisors finally passed the ordinance, officially designating the Ladies’ Protection and Relief Society as a landmark.
