How it got here
This legislation originated from the need to support corner businesses in San Francisco by allowing them to install two projecting signs, responding to economic challenges faced by small businesses post-COVID-19.
Supervisor Sherrill introduced the ordinance to amend the Planning Code regarding projecting signs for corner businesses.
The committee referred the proposed legislation to the Planning Department and Small Business Commission for review and recommendations.
The Planning Department determined that the proposed ordinance complies with the California Environmental Quality Act.
The Planning Commission held a public hearing and recommended approval of the ordinance, finding it consistent with the General Plan.
A public hearing was noticed for the Land Use and Transportation Committee to consider the ordinance.
The committee recommended the ordinance for passage after reviewing it in a public hearing.
The Board of Supervisors finally passed the ordinance, which was subsequently approved by the Mayor.
