How it got here
The legislation to initiate a landmark designation for The Mint Mall and Hall was prompted by the cultural significance of the site to the Filipino community and the establishment of the SoMa Pilipinas Cultural Heritage District.
SoMa Pilipinas submitted its Cultural History, Housing and Economic Sustainability Strategy (CHHESS) report to the Mayor's office, advocating for the protection of culturally significant buildings.
Ordinance No. 126-18 was enacted to create a process for establishing cultural districts, including the SoMa Pilipinas - Filipino Cultural Heritage District, to preserve unique cultural heritage.
Supervisors Dorsey, Chan, and Mandelman introduced a resolution to initiate a landmark designation for The Mint Mall and Hall under Article 10 of the Planning Code.
The Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 394-25, initiating the landmark designation process for The Mint Mall and Hall.
The Mayor approved the resolution, allowing the Planning Department to prepare a Landmark Designation Report for the Historic Preservation Commission.
The Planning Department is tasked with submitting the Landmark Designation Report to the Historic Preservation Commission for consideration.
