How it got here
The legislation originated from a need to streamline the Building Code by removing local requirements that were redundant or inconsistent with state standards.
Mayor Lurie introduced the ordinance to amend the Building Code, aiming to remove local requirements regarding commercial lighting, rooftop mechanical penthouses, driveway and sidewalk load limits, and the Slope Protection Act.
The committee referred the ordinance to the Planning Department and the Building Inspection Commission for review and recommendations.
The Building Inspection Commission held a public hearing and unanimously recommended approval of the ordinance, with a request for an information sheet regarding the Building Official’s discretion in slope areas.
The Planning Department determined that the ordinance complies with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), confirming no significant environmental impact.
The committee recommended the ordinance for passage to the Board of Supervisors.
The Board of Supervisors finally passed the ordinance, completing the legislative process.
