The legislation to repeal the 2022 Electrical Code and enact the 2025 Electrical Code originated from the need to align with the new California Building Standards Code.
The Department of Building Inspection introduced an ordinance to repeal the 2022 Electrical Code and enact the 2025 Electrical Code, which includes local amendments to the California Electrical Code.
The Building Inspection Commission held a public hearing and unanimously recommended the adoption of the 2025 San Francisco Electrical Code amendments.
The Land Use and Transportation Committee recommended the ordinance for approval to the Board of Supervisors.
The Planning Department determined that the ordinance complies with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
The Board of Supervisors passed the ordinance on first reading.
The Board of Supervisors finally passed the ordinance, which was then approved by the Mayor on November 21, 2025.
The new 2025 Electrical Code will become operative, replacing the 2022 Electrical Code.
