How it got here
The Family Zoning Plan originated from the need to address San Francisco's housing shortage as mandated by state housing element law.
The Board adopted Ordinance No.010-23, which established a revised Housing Element requiring the city to identify sites for 82,069 new housing units over eight years.
Mayor Lurie, along with Supervisors Sauter, Mahmood, and Dorsey, introduced ordinances for Zoning Map Amendments and Planning Code Amendments as part of the Family Zoning Plan.
The Planning Commission initiated amendments to the General Plan to align with the Family Zoning Plan, responding to changing housing needs.
The Planning Department mailed a Notice of Availability for the draft Local Coastal Program (LCP) Amendment to facilitate the Family Zoning Plan.
The Planning Commission adopted Resolutions Nos. 21808, 21809, and 21810, recommending approval of the Family Zoning Plan and its amendments.
The Committee received public comments on the LCP Amendment and made revisions to the proposal.
The Board passed the LCP Amendment on first reading, moving forward with the Family Zoning Plan.
The Board adopted the LCP Amendment, which will be submitted to the California Coastal Commission for certification.
