How it got here
The Downtown Hospitality Zone ordinance originated from the need to support new restaurants in downtown San Francisco, prompted by state legislation SB 395.
Mayor Lurie introduced an ordinance to amend the Administrative Code to create the Downtown Hospitality Zone, affirming the Planning Department's CEQA determination.
The Board of Supervisors' Rules Committee received the proposed ordinance for review, which included a CEQA determination.
The Planning Department determined that the ordinance complies with CEQA, which was incorporated into the ordinance file.
The Rules Committee reviewed the ordinance and discussed amendments to the number of liquor licenses to be issued.
The Rules Committee amended the ordinance to reduce the number of licenses from 20 to 15 and recommended it for further consideration.
The Board of Supervisors passed the ordinance on first reading, moving it closer to enactment.
