How it got here
The legislation originated from a collaborative effort between residents and the San Francisco Public Works to address waste collection challenges at the Harry Street Steps.
Public Works worked with residents to identify a solution for waste collection challenges at the Harry Street Steps, leading to the proposal for a waste bin enclosure.
Residents living at the base of the Harry Street Steps agreed to allow the installation of a waste bin enclosure on the sidewalk in front of their properties.
The Planning Department determined that the proposed actions comply with the California Environmental Quality Act, which is necessary for the ordinance.
Supervisor Mandelman introduced the ordinance to waive the encroachment permit and occupancy fees for the waste bin enclosure project.
The ordinance was referred to the Planning Department for further review and recommendation.
The ordinance is currently pending committee action following its referral to the Planning Department.
