Ordinance amending the Planning Code to designate the Mission Congregational Church, located at 3689 19th Street, Assessor’s Parcel Block No. 3598, Lot No. 060, on the south side of 19th Street between Dolores Street and Guerrero Street, as a landmark consistent with the standards set forth in Article 10 of the Planning Code; affirming the Planning Department’s determination under the California Environmental Quality Act; and making public necessity, convenience, and welfare findings under Planning Code, Section 302, and findings of consistency with the General Plan, and the eight priority policies of Planning Code, Section 101.1.
How it got here
The legislation to designate the Mission Congregational Church as a landmark originated from a resolution initiated by the Board of Supervisors and was reviewed by the Historic Preservation Commission.
On March 3, 2026, the Board adopted Resolution No. 102-26 to initiate the landmark designation process for the Mission Congregational Church.
On March 6, 2026, the Mayor approved the Board's resolution initiating the landmark designation.
The Historic Preservation Commission held a public hearing and recommended the designation of the Mission Congregational Church as a landmark by adopting Resolution No. 1575.
The Planning Department transmitted the case for the Mission Congregational Church to the Board of Supervisors, including the Historic Preservation Commission's recommendation.
The Clerk of the Board noticed a public hearing for the Land Use and Transportation Committee to consider the landmark designation ordinance.
The Land Use and Transportation Committee held a public hearing to consider the ordinance for the landmark designation of the Mission Congregational Church.
The ordinance is currently at the first reading stage in the Board of Supervisors.
