The World Health Organization declared July 28 as World Hepatitis Day to honor Dr. Baruch Blumberg, who discovered the Hepatitis B virus.
SF Hep B Free advocated for and passed state legislation mandating primary care physicians to offer Hepatitis B and C testing to at-risk individuals.
Supervisors Chen, Chan, Fielder, Mandelman, Mahmood, Wong, Walton, Sauter, and Sherrill introduced a resolution urging healthcare providers to continue hepatitis treatment and care, and recognizing July 28, 2026, as World Hepatitis Day.
The resolution was referred for adoption without committee reference at the next Board meeting.
