Ordinance amending the Planning Code to designate the Allen-Weaver-Durant-Smith Auto Showroom, located at 1625 Van Ness Avenue/1821-1825 Sacramento Street, Assessor’s Parcel Block No. 0642, Lot No. 003, on the west side of Van Ness Avenue between Sacramento Street and California Street, as a landmark consistent with the standards set forth in Article 10 of the Planning Code; affirming the Planning Department’s determination under the California Environmental Quality Act; and making public necessity, convenience, and welfare findings under Planning Code, Section 302, and findings of consistency with the General Plan, and the eight priority policies of Planning Code, Section 101.1.
How it got here
The legislation to designate the Allen-Weaver-Durant-Smith Auto Showroom as a landmark originated from a broader initiative by the San Francisco Planning Department to preserve historically significant properties.
Supervisor Stephen Sherrill initiated the landmark designation for fifteen properties, including the Allen-Weaver-Durant-Smith Auto Showroom, as part of the Family Zoning Plan Landmark Designation Program.
The Land Use and Transportation Committee recommended approval of the landmark designation resolutions for the fifteen properties.
The Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 163-26 to initiate the landmark designation process for the Allen-Weaver-Durant-Smith Auto Showroom.
Mayor Daniel Lurie signed the resolution initiating the landmark designation for the Allen-Weaver-Durant-Smith Auto Showroom.
The Historic Preservation Commission held a public hearing and voted to recommend the landmark designation of the Allen-Weaver-Durant-Smith Auto Showroom to the Board of Supervisors.
The ordinance for the landmark designation was received from the Planning Department and forwarded to the Board of Supervisors.
The ordinance was assigned to the Board of Supervisors under the 30-day rule for further consideration.
