Ordinance amending the Planning Code to designate the Brown-Metzger Mansion, located at 2209 Van Ness Avenue, Assessor’s Parcel Block No. 0570, Lot No. 029, on the west side of Van Ness Avenue between Broadway Avenue and Vallejo Street, as a landmark consistent with the standards set forth in Article 10 of the Planning Code; affirming the Planning Department’s determination under the California Environmental Quality Act; and making public necessity, convenience, and welfare findings under Planning Code, Section 302, and findings of consistency with the General Plan, and the eight priority policies of Planning Code, Section 101.1.
How it got here
The legislation to designate the Brown-Metzger Mansion as a landmark originated from a broader initiative by the San Francisco Planning Department to preserve historically significant properties.
Supervisor Stephen Sherrill initiated the landmark designation for fifteen properties, including the Brown-Metzger Mansion, as part of the Family Zoning Plan Landmark Designation Program.
The Board adopted Resolution No. 171-26 to initiate the landmark designation process for the Brown-Metzger Mansion.
Mayor Daniel Lurie signed the resolution initiating the landmark designation for the Brown-Metzger Mansion.
The HPC held a public hearing and voted to recommend the landmark designation of the Brown-Metzger Mansion to the Board of Supervisors.
The Clerk of the Board received the recommendation from the Historic Preservation Commission for the landmark designation of the Brown-Metzger Mansion.
The President of the Board assigned the ordinance for the landmark designation of the Brown-Metzger Mansion under the 30-day rule.
