How it got here
This legislation originated from the need to establish rights for commercial tenants in San Francisco to engage in organizing activities.
Prior to this ordinance, there was no local law in San Francisco that codified the rights of commercial tenants to use common areas for organizing activities or established a process for forming commercial tenant associations.
Supervisors Chan and Fielder introduced the ordinance to amend the Administrative Code to recognize commercial tenant organizing rights and outline landlord responsibilities.
The ordinance authorizes the Office of Small Business to issue rules and regulations to implement the new chapter and provide technical assistance to tenants and landlords.
The ordinance was assigned under the 30-day rule for further consideration by the Board of Supervisors.
