How it got here
The legislation originated from the need to contract jail food services at a lower cost, following a competitive bidding process initiated by the Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office issued a Request for Proposals for Jail Food Services at the County Jails, seeking vendors to provide food services.
The Board approved the Controller's certification that county jail food service management operations can be performed by a private contractor at a lower cost than if performed by City employees, as per Proposition J.
The City announced its intent to award the contract for Jail Food Services to Aramark Correctional Services, following the evaluation of proposals.
The Sheriff's Office submitted a proposed resolution to the Board of Supervisors to authorize a contract with Aramark for jail food services.
The Budget and Finance Committee amended the resolution and recommended it for approval by the Board of Supervisors.
The Board of Supervisors adopted the resolution authorizing the Sheriff's Office to enter into a contract with Aramark for jail food services.
